If everyone interview is like this one with Lewis Howes, we all win. Trust me. Lewis was on the show before talking about becoming an entrepreneur and getting off his sister’s couch, but now he has raised his entrepreneurial game to the next level, already eclipsing $1,000,000 in sales this year.

In this interview, he tells the story and the journey so far. He is super candid about how he makes money (and why), what he is great at (and not so good at), mistakes, building badass relationships, and much more.

I hope you will pick up all kinds of inspiration and ideas for yourself (yay!). Enjoy!

  • Lewis is brilliant. I’ve admired him for some time & got to meet him in person this past spring. He’s as genuine in person as he is ‘online’ – smart cookie too.

    • thanks @LynetteRadio:disqus … looking forward to hanging with you again at the next event 🙂

  • @lewishowes:twitter has offered a lot of great information and resources over the past two years and has created and built a solid brand for himself. Along with Sean Malarkey as well they have done some great things on their webinars. Thanks for sharing your ideas and concepts.

    • Thanks @justicewordlaw:disqus 🙂

After watching this, I’ve got a full page of notes and as the show came to a close, I rolled back in my chair, and yelled out, “BOOMSHAKALAKA!” (NBA Jam style)

It was THAT good. Probably my favorite interview yet with all the practical application and detailed info.

Lewis & David have done it again! *Applause*

    • David Siteman Garland

EPIC NBA JAM REFERENCE. Hah. That is awesome to hear. I *promise* many more interviews to be similar to this high quality (shot two today in fact).

    • Best comment ever. I “BOOYAH!” at work all the time…

    • Tim… you crack me up my man 🙂  I can see you yelling that out as well… haha!

Glad you enjoyed it and hope it was helpful for your business my friend!

  • Trevor Turnbull

Great stuff guys! Lots of great advice for aspiring entrepreneurs. Sounds simple, but so true that helping others achieve their goals will help you achieve your own goals faster…..not to mention it’s much more satisfying than resorting to “old school”, pushy sales tactics!

    • David Siteman Garland

Definitely, Trevor. I think Lewis’ soft selling ability is top notch.

  • Sometimes in life the cards just start to fall your way..and Lewis hit the Blackjack of life.

    “Black Seo Guy “Signing Off”

    • David Siteman Garland

Hah. And I’d argue he creates his own luck through hard work.

    • thanks man!

Hey David, semi-new viewer here but I really love your stuff! This was a great interview and I really enjoyed the discussion you guys had on relationship building. I was wondering if anyone had any particular tactics they use for searching for and identifying “rising stars” (as Lewis put it) and also any recommendations on the best method for making that initial contact to get a relationship started (a DM, tweet, email, etc?).

Keep up the great work, I’ll keep tuning in!

    • David Siteman Garland

Hey Scott – Thanks so much. Good questions. I’ll let Lewis hop in. From my experience, in terms of reaching out, I try to pay attention as to how they like to be contacted online which you can often fine on their blog, website, etc. (especially if they are a blogger). A lot of times they will lay out the best way (and worst way). Great to have you hear and much more to come!

      • Scott Mores

Awesome, thanks for your response David!

    • Hey @scottmores:disqus thanks for the comment.

To be honest, I go to A LOT of events, and I’m searching on Twitter often to see who is being mentioned, who is guest posting on popular sites, and who people are RTing that I haven’t seen before (that’s how I find the rising stars talent).

The best way I approach people is usually via Twitter first (where I’ll add value and RT their content that I’m enjoying the most from their site… or mentioning them… and driving traffic back to their content…  Add value first if you can before reaching out so they already know who you are).

Then I’d follow up with the way you feel most comfortable with after you do research on them (if they say they hate email… then just DM them 🙂

Then I try to get on skype or meet in the same city or at an event if possible.

Any skype or face to face works best.  The rest is about adding value, offering help, making introductions to help them achieve their goals… and really just becoming friends with people.

Hope that helps some my friend.

      • Scott Mores

That’s very helpful, thanks a lot Lewis. BTW I think my favorite advice you gave about networking with people in that interview is party with them at 3am haha good stuff!

        • @scottmores:disqus the parties are always good late at night and people love to open up… that’s when you can pin things against them 😉 (haha jk)

  • Thanks for an amazing interview …. great interview and it’s fun to see you two having so much fun when talking up success and great ways for all of us to get there… David you are awesome. Has anyone ever interviewed YOU? (Your sense of humor: top notch! Lewis was funny too ;))!

    • David Siteman Garland

F – Glad you enjoyed it. I believe the tables have been turned on a few other shows (meaning interviewed on other peeps shows) but not for awhile 🙂

      • I’d love to see you featured on BlogcastFM by Srinivas Rao and Sid Savara…. ! He’ll pick your brain as I’d love to hear your story. Anyway, great stuff. I’d love to do a webinar soon, after the immediate product launches – I listened to Lewis speak at Blogworld NY and that’s the one thing I remember: Lewis=LinkedIn & Webinars! 🙂 Talk soon, David and do keep up this amazing amazing energy. Maybe someday, I can be on your awesome show! 😉

    • Thanks… I’ll never be as funny as David… but I try 🙂  I’ve interviewed david also 🙂
